MG Rover bought by Nanjing

The drawn out bidding battle for the remains of MG Rover has finally come to an end, with Chinese carmaker Nanjing emerging as the owner of both the British car brand and its engine producer Powertrain. Despite a last minute alteration to its bid, the Kimber group headed by David James was passed over by PriceWaterhouseCoopers, which was responsible for the sale of MG Rover after the company's collapse. Nanjing has already said it will relocate MG Rover's engine plant and some car production to China, but expects to employ up to 2,000 workers in the U.K. where final assembly of MG's automobiles will take place. The third bidder, SAIC, was the most favored potential owner by unions because it was believed that company would create the most jobs in England.
